Incorporated in Malaysia on 16th May 1972 with an authorized share capital of RM15 million, Sungei Wang Plaza opened for business in 1977 with 1.2 million square feet mall consists of seven shopping levels and three split -level basement parking spaces. The Plaza continually receives an average of two (2) million visitors on monthly basis. In year 1992, USD 10 million was invested into the renovation and refurbishment of the retail floors.
Known as one of the happening malls in town for its events and promotions since the 90’s until today, Sungei Wang Plaza is the homefornumerous popular international and local artistes, fashion shows, countdown concerts, festive season stage showcases and also not forgetting corporate social responsibility programs. The Plaza went through its 2nd massive refurbishment in late 2012. The RM30million project saw massive changes to brighter painted ceilings and floor tiles, a freshly repainted facade, upgraded lift lobbies, improved mall signage, as well as new balustrades and lighting at the main atrium. In addition, aRM2.3million covered walkway is being constructed along the Plaza’s frontage on Jalan Sultan Ismail which replaces the old Fiesta Street to ‘Sungei Wang Walk’. The 132 meter covered walkway links JalanImbi to Sungei Wang Plaza and Jalan Bukit Bintang’s Monorail Station. Specially made out of glass panels to shield pedestrians from the sun and rain, the walkway is also equipped with CCTV Cameras and lights for security reasons.
The refurbishment exercise is not only to improve the Plaza’s facilities and services but also to support Bukit Bintang-KLCC (BBKLCC) Tourism Association’s efforts to elevate the status of Kuala Lumpur, in particular the Bukit Bintang-KLCC shopping district, as a world class shopping destination.
